Primary Responsibilities
- Reporting to General Counsel, AliExpress or a member of her team, advise on legal aspects of the platform’s international expansion of current and proposed new e-commerce offerings, with a focus on South Korea.
- Provide advice to business teams on legal aspects of the implementation of commercial agreements, business models and strategies, business operations, marketing activities, and product offerings.
- Research local laws and regulations in the local jurisdictions and manage outside counsel.
- Provide advice on platform compliance, product listing compliance, local and cross border logistics, import/export, and payment acceptance.
- Negotiate, draft, and review contracts, commercial agreements and policies.
- Develop in-house legal tools and policies, and conduct trainings to business units.
Position Requirement:
- Qualified lawyer in South Korea. Strong plus to have a bachelor of laws degree from a common law jurisdiction
- For legal counsel, 7+ years, and for associate legal counsel, 2-7 years of post-qualification experience at a top tier Korean or international law firm and/or corporation. In-house experience is highly welcome, strong preference for e-commerce/tech related.
- Experience with e-commerce, and/or cross-border trade transactions (such as product listing compliance, import/export, logistics, payments, financing, etc.) preferred.
- Proficiency in Korean and English is essential. Strong plus to have fluency in Chinese.
- Highly-motivated and able to balance priorities, meet deadlines, manage time and work independently and under pressure in a start-up environment.
- Sincere interest in technology, innovation and business. Strong commercial sense with solid foundation in legal training.
- High integrity and desire to collaborate with others.
- Eligible to work in South Korea.
- Open to international travel.
